Junior Advisory Committee
The Junior Advisory Committee (JAC) is tasked with administering the Junior Program at Southwestern Yacht Club. The committee consists of six members holding the positions of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Social, Trophy and Membership and liaisons from Finance, Anglers, Sail Fleet and the Board of Directors. Additionally we have positions for Equipment and Competition. The committee meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM. All parents of participating juniors are encouraged to volunteer for the committee and/or attend meetings if they have questions or concerns about the junior program and its activities.
The JAC, together with the Junior Director, typically performs the following functions:
- Set program goals and provide guidance to the Junior Director on the implementation of the program activities.
- With the Finance Committee, prepare and oversee an annual budget for the Junior Program including the Summer Program
- Recommend Junior dues, fees and charges. Set tuition and charter fees for the Summer Program.
- Oversee the Junior equipment inventory, recommending new purchases as needed and providing expertise and labor toward required maintenance.
- Contact new members to advise them of the Junior Program and recruit new juniors. Recommend new junior members to the BOD and approve juniors who wish to move to Junior Transitional status.
- Coordinate with catering to provide set-up, food and entertainment for junior social events and regattas hosted by SWYC.
- Acquire and update Junior trophies and awards.
- Provide competition funding for juniors attending approved events.
- Develop policies related to the use of junior equipment.
